SALT LAKE CITY – The #21 Colorado School of Mines Volleyball team extended its win streak to five on Friday night thanks to a 3-0 win against Westminster inside Behnken Field House.
Emily Knight led all hitters with 13 kills on a .524 attack percentage.
Rose Stuewe was right behind with 12 kills at a .458 clip while knocking down four total blocks as well.
Megan Neil also proved big on offense, notching down 10 kills while hitting .304 on the outside.
Morgan McChesney walked away with five total blocks.
Drew Stokes finished with 34 assists, nine digs and three kills on .600 hitting.
Elle Duis capped it with 11 digs and a service ace.
Mines (18-5, 13-2 RMAC) pushed its win streak to five consecutive matches thanks to a team attack percentage of .355 along with eight total blocks. That defense limited Westminster (5-18, 3-12 RMAC) to a .104 attack percentage. The Griffins did find a bright spot in five service aces. However, the Orediggers out-killed (48-29), out-assisted (45-29), and out-dug (54-42) their hosts as WC dropped its eighth straight match. Mines remained tied for #2 in the RMAC standings after #17 Regis and #19 Colorado Mesa swept their respective Friday opponents.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Orediggers dominated Friday's affair from beginning to end. In three sets, there were exactly three ties and one lead change. None of those came in the opening frame which Mines won, 25-20. Stuewe hammered out six kills on .667 hitting, and Knight had five kills with no errors to hit .500 as the Orediggers took a 1-0 lead. That led to a second set which featured two ties and one lead change. However, those numbers proved misleading as the visitors ran away to a 25-19 win and a 2-0 lead in the match. Set two was highlighted by five kills from Neil, five from Knight and five total blocks as a team. The final frame was a 25-11 decision in favor of Mines. The Orediggers hit .552 as a team and Westminster hit just .062. Stuewe and Neil added the cherry on top with eight combined kills with zero attack errors.
