GOLDEN, Colo. - Another quality start by
Tyler Blomster and an opportunistic offense led Colorado School of Mines over UCCS 8-1 to start RMAC pod play.
Blomster (6-0) struck out eight as the Orediggers (19-10) were led at the plate by
Caden Bonds' three-RBI afternoon. The Mountain Lions (8-17) fell behind 6-0 after five innings and couldn't catch up as Blomster went eight strong.
Wayne Moeck went 2-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored, and three stolen bases in the game, and
Luke Folsom and
Adam Houghtaling also drove in runs. Mines snagged eight stolen bases in the game.
The game was scoreless through three innings until
Caden Bonds took advantage of a two-on situation with a single up the middle to plate
Mason Andrews and
Danny McDermott, starting a three-run inning as Houghtaling's single brought in Bonds later.
In the fifth, Moeck's two-run double to the fence scores
Luke Folsom and
Toby Scoles, and the centerfielder later scored on a steal of third and an error on the throw to lead 6-0.
UCCS' lone run came in the sixth when Mines traded a double play ball by Stubbings for a run, but Mines got it back on Bonds' sacrifice fly in the seventh to bring in Moeck. Folsom doubled in
I-Ly Hsue in the eighth to make it 8-1.
Blomster threw 96 pitches through eight innings, striking out eight and walking one in a terrific start.
Nash Neff was dominant with two strikeouts in a hitless ninth, closing out a non-save situation.
UCCS threw Jonathan Cowles (3-4) who struck out nine but allowed six runs (four earned) in 4.1 innings. Hunter Owens completed the game with two runs surrendered.
Mines is back at noon Saturday to play New Mexico Highlands at
Jim Darden Field.
