On the 40th anniversary season of their historic Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship, and the 50th anniversary year of Title IX, the 1983 Colorado School of Mines women's swimming & diving team will enter the Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2022. 

The first Oredigger women's team to win a conference championship in any sport, the 1983 swimming & diving team ruled the pool in just their third season after both the program's and RMAC Championship's formations in 1981.

Following an outstanding 5-2 dual meet season and a win at the RMAC Relays, the team went to Durango looking to improve upon their third-place showing in 1982. Under coach Bob McCandless, the Orediggers used superior depth to score 548 points and win the RMAC Championship meet over Western Colorado, the host Fort Lewis, and Regis. The meet included individual titles by Lisa Proch (1-meter diving) and Mitzi Rejeske (400-IM and 200-back), and the Orediggers won the 400-medley relay. Both Rejeske's 200-back win and the 400-medley relay victory set new RMAC records. 

The 1983 swimming & diving team will be the third women's team to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, joining the 2004-05 women's basketball (Class of 2011) and 2005 cross country (Class of 2013) squads. They will be joined in the Class of 2022 by the men's RMAC-championship-winning 1981 to 1984 swimming & diving teams, also coached by McCandless, who is himself a Hall of Famer inducted in 2004.
