Offensive Efficiency Engineers Mines' Sweep of CCU

GOLDEN, Colo. – An extremely efficient offense helped the Colorado School of Mines Volleyball team tally a 3-0 win against Colorado Christian on Thursday night in the first match of another RMAC pod.

No Oredigger hitter produced an attack percentage less than .350. Rose Stuewe led the way in kills with 12 on .409 hitting. Allison Jansen was the most efficient for Mines thanks to a .462 clip leading to eight kills. Emily Knight notched 11 kills while producing a .444 hitting percentage. Shannon Perna and Madison Glassco turned in eight kills each while converting at .412 and .350, respectively. Presley Powell managed the offensive production by dishing out 39 assists. She also had two service aces. On defense, Glassco led the way with 15 digs. Knight knocked down five total blocks. Perna and Powell finished touting three blocks apiece.

As a team, the Orediggers (11-9) hit .478 for the match. Despite seven total blocks for Mines, Colorado Christian (9-12) still managed a .355 mark on the attack. The Orediggers held advantages in every statistical category listed on the box score. Potentially underrated but arguably most notable were two service aces and seven service errors for CCU compared to six service aces and six service errors for Mines. Thursday's match featured two members of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), but the result did not count toward the conference standings. With the victory, the Orediggers improved to 3-0 against the Cougars in 2023.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Five ties and four lead changes in the box score did not do justice to the dominance displayed by Mines in game one of the match. More accurate in the telling of the story were Stuewe's five kills on .714 hitting and four service aces by the Orediggers. Mines' .500 hitting percentage in the frame highlighted a 25-15 win for the home team. Sixteen ties and eight lead changes provided a flavor of drama in the second set. However, nine combined kills with one total error from Glassco and Knight led the Orediggers to a 25-23 win and a 2-0 lead in the match. Mines hit just .286 in the final frame. But five more kills from Stuewe and five total blocks as a team helped the Orediggers clinch the sweep with a 25-18 victory.
