GOLDEN, Colo. - A strong finish to the dual propelled Colorado School of Mines to a 31-13 win over New Mexico Highlands to open the RMAC season.

The Orediggers (2-0) won the final four weight classes after it was tied 13-13 through six bouts starting at 165 pounds. Mines ripped off a run starting at 133 with Trebor Moreno, Grayston DiBlasi, and Cody Thompson all winning - Moreno and Thompson with bonus points - to secure the dual victory.

Jakob Smith, Mason Diel, and Cade Whish also collected wins in the front half of the meet, with Daniel Caddy earning a forfeit victory at the end.

Smith started things off with the bout of the night against the Cowboys' Ivan Smith Jr., with the visitor scoring a third-period escape to force overtime tied 8-8 before the Oredigger got a pancake takedown to a near-fall for the 15-8 win. Mines and NMHU traded victories after that with Thomas Tolbert edging Wyatt Reisz 4-2 at 174 before Mason Diel and NMHU's Zachary Ferris traded pins at 184 and 197, respectively. Cade Whish picked up a 12-2 major decision at heavyweight before Rhys Sellers did the same, 13-1, over Christian Lopez at 125, and that left things tied 13-13 through six weight classes.

Things started to turn at 133 as Moreno worked takedowns in each period to major Julius Kohn 16-4, and DiBlasi gutted out a 2-0 defensive masterpiece over Joseph Misitano, riding out the second period and then getting an escape and riding time in the third, to put Mines ahead 20-13. The Cowboys then had a must-win at 149 but Thompson shut the door with three near-falls, including one at the buzzer in the first period to win 17-2 by technical fall.
