M/W Swimming at the 2023 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships – Tuesday-Saturday (10 a.m. ET prelims/6 p.m. ET Finals)
Indiana University Natatorium – Indianapolis, Ind. [Watch Live] [Live Results] [Mines NCAA Schedule]

PODIUMS, HARDWARE, AND HISTORY
The Colorado School of Mines Men's and Women's Swimming teams are in Indianapolis for the 2023 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships. Action begins Tuesday evening and runs through Saturday evening. The Orediggers have one of the largest, if not the largest contingency in program history, and they'll look to make history by scoring points, making podiums, and bringing home hardware.

HOW TO WATCH
Tuesday's schedule features one set of timed finals in the evening. Outside of that, each day will start with prelims at 10 a.m. (ET) followed by finals at 6 p.m. (ET). Every race of every session will stream live and for free at www.ncaa.com/liveschedule. There will also be live results available as well.

WHO'S GOING
As stated above, Mines' men and women tout one of the biggest contingencies for the national meet in program history. The Orediggers qualified seven women and six men including five relay-only swimmers. For the women, the guest list includes Kerrigan Hemp, Emi Jedryka, Olivia Kisow, Annie Osmun, Jorie Selig, Meghan Slowey, and Jordan Tierney. The men's roster for nationals features Charles Burroughs, Seth Krause, Sam LaPrade, Ronan Lauinger, Garrett Waite, and Jakson Winn.

THE FORMAT
The 2023 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships officially begin with a single session Tuesday evening. For Mines fans, that session includes the women's 800-freestyle relay. After opening night, each day begins with prelims, or trials, at 10 a.m. ET with finals starting at 6 p.m. ET. Swimmers finishing #16 or better in prelims of individual events will advance to the evening session with finishers 9-16 competing in the "B" final with 1-8 in the "A" final. All relays along with the 1000-free and 1650-free will be timed finals.

HOW TO SCORE
National scoring functions exactly the same as the TYR/CMU Invitational and the RMAC Swimming & Diving Championships. The top-16 individual swimmers from the swimming preliminaries will advance to the evening finals. In those evening sessions, there will be an eight-person championship final and an eight-person consolation finals. Team points will be awarded to all 16 in the finals in the following amounts with first place getting 20 teams points and 16th place getting one team points (20-17-16-15-14-13-12-11-9-7-6-5-4-3-2-1). Diving events will also be scored in the same manner. As mentioned above, the 1000-free and 1650-free do not have preliminary rounds. Relay events, which also don't have preliminary heats, are worth double the team points, and "B" relay teams will swim in a separate heat with a shot at ninth place overall. Individual swimmers can score in up to four individual and seven total events.

HARDWARE ON THE LINE
It goes without saying that the biggest piece of hardware available this week is a NCAA National Championship trophy. Winners of individual events in the "A" finals will all be crowned national champions. At the end of the week, the men's and women's teams with the highest team scores will also be national champions. Additionally, finishers 1-8 will be crowned First-Team All-America and those finishing 9-16 will be Second-Team All-America. Additional superlative awards are given out by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).

IN THE RANKINGS
March's edition of the national rankings put together by the CSCAA featured both the Oredigger men and women inside the top-25. Mines' men dropped six spots to #19. The women jumped from receiving votes all the way to #16 in the nation. The University of Indianapolis took over #1 on both the men's and women's lists. Colorado Mesa was the top-ranked RMAC team with the Maverick men sitting #4 and the women at #3. Oklahoma Christian's men were the only other RMAC program in the rankings at #9.

WHAT TO WATCH
Mines will have Orediggers swimming on all five days of the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships. Day-by-day breakdowns can be found below. AT THE HELM
Colorado School of Mines Swimming Head Coach Claire McDaniel is in her fourth season at the helm for the Oredigger men and women. McDaniel became back-to-back RMAC Coach of the Year for the men and women after sweeping the awards for a second straight season last February. Through three seasons, she has coached four RMAC Swimmers of the Year, three RMAC Freshmen of the Year, and nine all-America swims out of 10 individuals and two relays to qualify for the NCAA Championships.

STANDING IN THE HALL OF FAME
On Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022, Colorado School of Mines inducted two individuals and two teams into the Harry D. Campbell Oredigger Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2022. The two teams inducted were the 1983 women's swimming & diving team and the 1981 to 1984 men's swimming & diving teams. The women's squad was the first Mines women's team to win a conference championship. The men's team won four consecutive RMAC titles under Head Coach Bob McCandless. That run capped a stretch of six titles in seven years dating back to 1978. Full profiles of each Hall of Fame team can be found HERE.
