Previous NCAA Recaps: Day 1

INDIANAPOLIS – The Colorado School of Mines Men's and Women's Swimming teams both got on the scoreboard Wednesday at the 2023 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships thanks to Meghan Slowey and Garrett Waite.

Slowey was the first to strike for the Orediggers as she turned in the third all-American performance of her career, taking #14 in the nation in the 1000-free with a time of 10:09.75. It was her first individual event of the week in her third straight NCAA appearance. Slowey's Second-Team All-America award adds to Second-Team All-America status in the same event in 2022. She was also a First-Team All-America swim in the 1650-free in 2022 as well. The senior from South Carolina is still slated to swim the 200-free, 500-free, 1650-free, and a leg of the 400-freestyle relay.

Waite accounted for the first team points for Mines' men after finishing #14 in the 200-IM with the first all-American swim of his career. The junior clinched Second-Team All-American status by breaking his own program record in prelims with a time of 1:47.92. That advanced him to the evening session where he touched the wall in 1:48.38. Waite's finals time also would have broken his previous program record if not for his performance in the morning. The Washington native also provided a leg of the men's 200-medley relay during the evening session. In his second consecutive NCAA appearance, Waite will also swim the 200-free and 100-breast.

Additional Oredigger action from the evening finals came by way of the men's and women's 200-medley relays. Kerrigan Hemp, Jordan Tierney, Annie Osmun, and Emi Jedryka teamed up to help Mines' women take #17 in the nation with a time of 1:44.54. On the men's side, Sam LaPrade, Waite, Seth Krause, and Jakson Winn touched the wall in 1:28.91. Also notable was LaPrade breaking his own program record in the 50-back on the leadoff leg thanks to a split of 22:59.

In addition to Slowey swimming her timed final in the 1000-free, the morning session also featured action from Osmun, Tierney, and Charles Burroughs. Osmun finished #33 in the nation in the 200-IM at a pace of 2:08.58. Tierney was #48 in all of NCAA Division II in the 50-free thanks to her time of 24.34. Burroughs appeared in the men's 200-IM and touched the wall in 1:51.13 to take #37.

After two days and three sessions of swimming and diving, both the men and women tout three points apiece. The men are #22 in the team standings and the women sit #24. Nova Southeastern is #1 on the women's list and Indianapolis is tops for the men.

Oredigger action continues Thursday morning with prelims at 10 a.m. (ET). Mines swimmers are slated to appear in the 100-fly, 400-IM, and 200-free. The Oredigger women will also swim the evening session in the 400-medley relay. Fans can watch each race live at www.ncaa.com/liveschedule.
