Powell’s Double-Double Not Enough Against #7 Roadrunners

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Oredigger freshman setter Presley Powell produced her fourth double-double of the season on Friday night, but it was not enough for the Colorado School of Mines Volleyball team as it fell in three sets to #7-ranked MSU Denver at the CCU Event Center.

Powell finished the match with 21 assists, 10 digs, and two total blocks. Madison Glassco led the offense by knocking down six kills. Allison Jansen also provided highlights on offense thanks to a .333 hitting percentage and two service aces. On defense, Jada Price produced nine digs. Morgan McChesney and Emily Knight had three blocks apiece.

The Orediggers (6-7, 1-4 RMAC) were held to .037 on the attack as MSU Denver (11-3, 5-0 RMAC) notched 12 blocks as a team. Mines produced seven total blocks of its own, but the Roadrunners still converted a team attack percentage of .340. The loss was the Orediggers' third straight. MSU Denver extended its RMAC win streak to 46. Riley Anderson and Ember Canty were the top individuals for the Roaderunners.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Identical scores in the first two sets came in different fashions. MSU Denver, the home team on the scoreboard, leapt to an 8-2 lead in the opening set and did not look back on the way to a 25-14 win. Mines challenged the Roadrunners early in the second set, pulling within 9-6 after taking a 3-1 lead. However, a 7-0 run put the Orediggers at a 22-10 deficit. MSU Denver eventually finished off another 25-14 win despite Powell's seven digs in the frame.

With the Roadrunners on the precipice of a sweep, Mines produced its most competitive game of the night. Emma Smithey came off the bench and knocked down four kills on .375 hitting. Price also racked up four digs, and the Orediggers had three total blocks. But the Roadrunners were too much. They pulled away for a 25-18 win and the 3-0 victory in the match.
