GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - There wasn't much between Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Mesa as they finished their dual tied, but the Orediggers walked away with a 19-18 win on criteria at Brownson Arena. 

Mines (5-2, 3-2 RMAC) went ahead on the third tiebreaking criteria - total match points scored from decisions, majors, and technical falls - after the two sides were knotted 18-18 with five bout victories apiece in the hard-fought dual. The Orediggers led 75-65 on that criteria keyed by Wyatt Reisz's 20-2 technical fall at 174 pounds and Cody Thompson's 11-2 major decision at 149.

The Orediggers led 18-7 after seven weight classes, but CMU won the final three to rally back and give themselves a chance. 

Christian Lopez started things at 125 pounds with what would be prove to be a key win, 11-10, over Dayton Torgerson, but CMU went ahead on Oran Huff's 15-5 major against Trebor Moreno. Mines reeled off four wins in the next five weight classes, however, with #8 Grayston DiBlasi blanking Denim Torgerson 7-0 at 141, Thompson winning 11-2 over Juan Garcia, Tristin David beating Tanner Baumgartner 13-7 at 165, and Reisz earning a second-period tech fall against Ben Robuck to lead 18-7.

Mesa's comeback started at 184 with #7 Jason Bynarowicz blanking Mason Diel 9-0, and Gabriel Carranza got another bonus point with a 13-5 win over Ryan Cody at 197. That left it up to Laith Ibrahim as he faced a tough Tyler Doyle, and only escapes by each man and a stalling point awarded to Doyle were scored in the bout as Ibrahim did what he needed to do - avoid losing by bonus points - to secure the dual win. 

It was Mines' first win on criteria since the 2018-19 season when they defeated Central Oklahoma 22-21 at the Midwest Duals. 

After their long road swing, Mines returns home Feb. 3 to host Adams State at 1 p.m.
