#20 Mines Finds Success At UNK

KEARNEY, Neb. -
#20 Colorado School of Mines had 10 placewinners - including eight in the Elite brackets - at the Younes Hospitality Open hosted by Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday.

At the largest single-day tournament in the nation, Trebor Moreno, #10 Grayston DiBlasi, and #1 Cody Thompson were all runners-up at 133 through 149, respectively, while Wyatt Reisz and Laith Ibrahim ended on wins to take third at 174 and 285. 

Moreno went 3-1 at Elite 133 with his only loss coming in the final to Wyoming's Josh Kyle by decision; he started with two pins before scoring a big upset with a 7-6 win over #2 Reece Barnhardt of UMary, 7-6, in the semis. DiBlasi had a similar tournament, going 3-1 with his only loss coming to D-I competition; the Mines senior's only blemish came in a defensive 1-0 final against Ismael Ayoub of Nebraska. Meanwhile, Thompson went 4-1 despite only facing one D-II wrestler; he had two wins over D-I competition before suffering a 9-3 defeat to Northern Colorado's Rudy Lopez in the final. 

Reisz went 3-1 highlighted by his opening bout where he beat #6 Gus Dalton of Colorado Mesa 6-2; Reisz's only loss came to another ranked competitor, #10 Kaden Hart of UNK, in the semifinals, but Reisz wrestled back to the third-place bout to earn the place by no contest. Ibrahim had a terrific 5-1 tournament with his only loss coming to a D-I competitor; Ibrahim also had two wins versus D-I foes and upset #7 Tyler Doyle of Colorado Mesa 4-1 in sudden victory in the consolation semifinal to ensure third place. 

Garrett Bakarich took fifth in the Elite 174 bracket in a 2-2 day; both of his wins came by fall, and he took fifth in a no-contest after wrestling back to the placing matches. Ryan Cody was also fifth at Elite 197, going 3-2 including two wins by fall. 

In the Amateur brackets, Timber Parlin took fifth at 184 with his 4-2 Saturday, and Marcus Caro was 6-1 at 157 before running up against his match limit prior to the placing bouts to end up sixth. 

Christian Lopez took sixth place at Elite 125 in a 2-3 day, while Xander Sweeney was 3-2 at Amateur 125. Tristin David (Elite 165), Mason Diel (Elite 184), and Deandre Rucker (Elite 197), and Cade Whish (Elite 285) were all 2-2 for the tournament. Jaron Mahler (Elite 157), Valor Buck (Elite 165), Jakob Smith (Elite 165), Grant Crownhart (Elite 174), Jeffery Morosini (Elite 197), Ethan Kremer (Elite 197), Elliot Kim (Amateur 133) and Trevor Thorn (Amateur 285) went 1-2, and Kaleb Valdez-Lemos (Elite 165) and Avery Krippner (Elite 184), and Yahir Chairez-Salazar (Amateur 149) were 0-2. 

Mines will break from competition for Thanksgiving and finals before returning to action Dec. 14 at the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis.
