GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. –
Annie Osmun topped a long list of stellar performances for the Colorado School of Mines Men's and Women's Swimming teams on Thursday night as she grabbed RMAC gold in the 100-fly inside El Pomar Natatroium.
Â
Osmun's championship-winning swim also broke the program record and was a NCAA "B" time. She provided one of two program records in evening session as the men's 400-medley relay also posted the fastest time in program history.
Charles Burroughs,
Luca Burns,
Seth Krause,
Ronan Lauinger, the women's 400-medley relay, and the men's 400-medley relay raked in six additional All-RMAC honors. Burroughs, Burns, Lauinger, and the women's medley relay stacked up NCAA-qualifying times as well. After three days and five swimming sessions, the Oredigger women solidified their standing at #2 in the team race thanks to 341.5 points. Mines' men surged from #3 to #2 with 330 team points in the same span. Colorado Mesa remains #1 in both standings.
Â
The first event of the evening was the 100-fly where Osmun stopped the clock in 54.62 which broke Daphne Williams' program record from the 2019-20 NCAA Championships. It also pushed Osmun to #5 in the nation as she earned her third 100-fly RMAC title in the last four years. The Littleton, Colo., native bested Colorado Mesa's Kiara Borchardt by 0.2 seconds to avenge a win by Borchardt at last year's conference meet. The women's 100-fly also saw
Savannah Karas,
Sophia Buhr,
Jorie Selig,
Kylie VanderMeer, and
Cameryn Schmidt add an additional 36 points to Mines' team score.
Â
Burroughs, Burns, and Krause brought the men's 100-fly to a similar impressive level. That trio finished 2-3-4 for a total of 48 team points. Burroughs' 48.58 improved his NCAA "B" time from prelims to just outside #40 in the nation. Burns also had a NCAA "B" cut after touching the wall at 48.47.
Max Waring and
Mattie Oberley teamed up for five more team points in the same event as part of the Oredigger men's surge to second place.
Â
The next final was the 400-IM. On the women's side,
Isabella Bono and
Olivia Kisow raced in the "A" final and combined for 23 team points.
Zooecia Phoebus,
Julie Gill, and Buhr added nine points to Mines' total in the "B" final. However, in the 400-IM, it was the Oredigger men's time to shine. Lauinger raced to RMAC silver and First-Team All-RMAC distinction thanks to a raw time of 3:56.21. It was a pace that moved Lauinger inside the top-10 in all of NCAA Division II this season.
Gavin Moore was also in the "A" final and took eighth.
Lucas Hoke,
Scott Reeder, and
Andres Saa brought the team total to 22 additional points.
Â
After
Maggie Wells and
Olivia Kisow added seven team points in the 200-free, there was a break for diving before an explosive 400-medley relay. Mines' women punched their ticket to nationals after
Kerrigan Hemp,
Jordan Tierney,
Annie Osmun, and
Jorie Selig churned out a NCAA time of 3:45.73. That pushed the Orediggers to #11 in the nation this season. The women's "B" relay of
Emi Jedryka,
Cameryn Schmidt,
Savannah Karas, and
Sarah Bennett tallied 14 more points toward the team total. Then, the men's relay proved equally exciting.
Luca Burns,
Jack Engler,
Charles Burroughs, and
Garrett Waite took down the program record with a time of 3:17.88. It toppled the previous top time of 3:17.88 posted by Jerry Birnbaum, Peyton Scherschel, Robert Clayton, and Harry Smith at the 2020-21 conference meet.
Jakson Winn,
Gavin Gilmore,
Max Waring, and
Gavin Moore rounded out the team scoring with 12 more relay points.
Â
After three days and five sessions of swimming, Mines' men and women have combined for 13 All-RMAC finishes, 10 conference medals, 21 NCAA-qualifying times, and a total of five program records. Two days and four swimming sessions remain in the 2024 RMAC Swimming & Diving Conference Championships with the 500-free, 100-back, 100-breast, 200-fly, and 200-free relay coming up on Friday.
