GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines dug out of a hole and won the final four weight classes to overcome CSU Pueblo, 24-17, in an RMAC dual at Volk Gym.

The short-handed Orediggers (7-2, 5-2 RMAC) trailed 17-9 with four bouts to go, but showed heart as they chipped at the deficit on wins by Wyatt Reisz and Mason Diel, then picked up a key major decision by Ryan Cody before Laith Ibrahim sealed things up at heavyweight. 

Mines was missing two starters and had to forfeit 125 pounds, putting them immediately in a 6-0 hole. Trebor Moreno did his best to score in a 12-1 major over Brandon Bigler at 133, but AJ Gunn defeated substitute 141-pounder Elliot Kim, wrestling up a weight, with a 17-2 technical fall. Cody Thompson got those points back, however, dominating Anthony Nichols 17-1 at 149, but CSU Pueblo began to pull away with wins over the next two bouts including Cyruss Meeks' 5-3 edge over Jakob Smith at 157 and Elijah Valdez's 7-5 win over Tristin David at 165.

The Orediggers' upperweights, though, were up for the task as Wyatt Reisz cruised to a 17-1 technical fall over Tytus Coombs at 174, and Diel then keyed the dual win with a gritty performance at 184. Trailing 6-2 after a period, Diel worked a 4-0 second period, then got a third-period takedown and riding time to come back and defeat Donn Greer 10-6. That tied the dual at 17-17, and Cody showed mastery with four takedowns - including a critical one with 10 seconds left to make it a major decision - as he beat Ben Gould 13-5.

That gave Mines a bit of breathing room for Ibrahim, who simply had to not surrender a bonus point but won a determined 4-1 decision thanks to his late third-period takedown against Henry Sturn.

The Orediggers wrap up their dual schedule at home next Thursday, taking on Simon Fraser at 6 p.m.
