WICHITA, Kan. - Cody Thompson will wrestle for a national title Saturday night after a come-from-behind semifinal victory in the 149-pound bracket.

The Colorado School of Mines redshirt sophomore defeated Lander's Zeth Brower 9-5 in Saturday morning's semifinal round, setting up a date in the final with second-seeded Jacob Ealy of Pitt-Johnstown, who won 6-4 over Central Oklahoma's Dylan Brown.

Saturday night's finals will stream live on ncaa.com starting at 6 p.m. MT.

Thompson, a first-time nationals qualifier and one of only three unseeded wrestlers in the semifinals in any weight class, is Mines' first national finalist since Weston Hunt in 2021, and will try to be the program's first national champion since John Simpson in 1998.

An action-packed first period resulted in Brower getting the first takedown, but Thompson worked a quick escape to make it 3-1 after three minutes. Brower chose bottom for the second and reversed Thompson out of a mat return, but another quick Thompson escape kept him within striking distance. Trailing 5-2 entering the third period, Thompson escaped from his bottom choice to make it a one-score bout, but he left no doubt with his first and only takedown of the match, putting Brower to his back for a three-point nearfall in a six-point swing as he rode out the period to win 9-5.
