GOLDEN, Colo. - #16 Colorado School of Mines dug deep to win four straight bouts in the upper weights, overcoming #13 Western Colorado in a 27-12 win before a packed house at Volk Gym.

#14 Wyatt Reisz upset #1 Cole Hernandez at 174 pounds and Mason Diel and #12 Ryan Cody secured last-gasp wins at 184 and 197 pounds to key the victory after the Mountaineers (5-4, 2-2 RMAC) led 12-9 following 157 pounds.

The Orediggers (9-2, 3-0 RMAC) remain one of the two unbeaten teams in the RMAC with the victory.

#9 Christian Lopez got Mines off to a flying start, earning a last-second takedown to turn a decision into a major as he won 11-2 over Roberto Estrada, but the Mountaineers answered with Devin Gomez's 13-9 victory over Trebor Moreno at 133. #4 Grayston DiBlasi turned another win into more bonus points as his takedown with two seconds to go made it a 19-4 technical fall.

#3 Dean Noble pinned Carson Dulitz in the second period to tie the dual 9-9 after 149, and Vincent Cabral's third-period takedown gave him the 4-1 upset over #11 Marcus Caro at 157 to put the Mountaineers in the lead at 12-9.

Mines ripped off four straight wins from there starting at 165 pounds where Jakob Smith emerged from a scoreless first period with a takedown into four nearfall points on the way to his 9-4 win, and then Reisz's victory over Hernandez turned the tide. Reisz was on the attack from the start, earning takedowns in the first and third period while allowing only a pair of escapes to beat Hernandez 8-2, handing him only his second loss of the season.

Mason Diel survived a wild third period to win 5-3 over Hunter Richardson thanks to a takedown with 13 seconds remaining, and that meant Mines could seal it up at 197 pounds. A combined 43 points later, #12 Ryan Cody emerged a 23-20 victor over Sage Harrison in a remarkable bout that featured nine combined takedowns, two reversals, Harrison coming back from 18-9 down to lead 20-19 in the third, and then Cody escaping and earning the final takedown with only seconds to go to avoid overtime and win 23-20. That left heavyweight moot, but Cade Whish put his mark on the dual with a second-period return to pin Riley Butt.
