THE JACK HANCOCK DUALS
This marks the second year of the revived Jack Hancock Duals, named in honor of the late Hall of Fame coach Jack Hancock. Mines' head coach for 37 years, Hancock built the Orediggers into a national power, finishing second in the 1961 NAIA Championships with 4 All-Americans and second in the 1964 NCAA tournament. In 1965 Mines hosted the NCAA College Division tournament and finished tenth. Mines was highly competitive at the NCAA level prior to 1963 when there were no divisions. During his tenure he produced 33 All-Americans and three national champions. Hancock is a member of the Mines, RMAC, University of Northern Colorado, and NCAA Wrestling Halls of Fame.Â
In last year's tournament, which also included Central Missouri and Belmont Abbey, Mines went 2-1 while UCM was 3-0, Belmont Abbey 0-3, and Sioux Falls 1-2.Â
MINES READIES TO HOST NCAA REGIONALS
Tickets are now on sale for the NCAA Division II Super Region VI Championships, which will be hosted by Mines at Lockridge Arena on Feb. 28. The one-day meet, which qualifies wrestlers to the national championships, is returning to Golden for the first time since 2017. Fans can reserve their spot at

This weekend's tournament features 11 NWCA-ranked individuals across eight weight classes: #12 Luke Kanath of Belmont Abbey at 141; #2

Mines was selected third in the preseason RMAC coaches' poll on Oct. 15, trailing Colorado Mesa and Adams State in a tight top three spots.
Jakob Smith and
Wyatt Reisz - both all-RMAC selections a year ago - were recognized as Preseason All-RMAC picks.
THE HISTORY
Mines and Central Missouri match up for the eighth time, with UCM winning 27-12 in last year's Hancock Duals but Mines holding a 4-3 series edge dating back to 1989. This will be Mines' second meeting against Belmont Abbey having beaten them 24-20 in last year's tournament, and the Orediggers face Minnesota State for the third time overall and first since 2007, with the Mavericks holding a 2-0 series lead; it will be Minnesota State's first visit to Golden since 1996.
THE CHAMPS ARE HERE
The Orediggers won the outright RMAC championship in 2024-25 with a perfect 7-0 RMAC dual schedule. It marks the third title for the Orediggers, all coming since 2019 under RMAC Coach of the Year
Austin DeVoe. Mines was well-rewarded for their title win in the RMAC's postseason honors, as
Jakob Smith earned First-Team All-RMAC honors at 165 pounds while four Orediggers took Second-Team All-RMAC accolades:
Christian Lopez (125 lbs.),
Grayston DiBlasi (141 lbs.),
Wyatt Reisz (174 lbs.), and
Ryan Cody (197 lbs.) in addition to DeVoe's major award.
LEADING THE WAY
Cody Thompson enters the weekend as Mines' active leader in career wins at 52-17, while
Wyatt Reisz, who ended his sophomore year in his first NCAA Championships appearance, is 47-14.
Marcus Caro leads the team in wins this season at 10-6 with
Ben Fanelli and
Deringer Hollenbeck right behind with nine apiece. Hollenbeck's five falls is the most on the team, while Thompson leads the Orediggers in dual points scored with 18 out of four victories.Â
AT THE HELM
Head Coach
Austin DeVoe is in his 12th season in charge of the Mines Wrestling program, having rebuilt the Orediggers into a national contender with three RMAC titles, eight all-Americans, and eight Academic All-Americans in his tenure. With 91 dual wins under his belt, Mines has had seven consecutive winning dual seasons including the only three double-digit win seasons in program history, including tying the program wins record in 2022-23 with an 11-2 record and surpassing it with 13 in 2024-25. On the national stage, Mines has had team success as well including an 11th-place finish in 2022 which was the program's best finish since the 1990s.Â
DIBLASI EARNS COMMENCEMENT HONOR
Friday is Commencement day at Mines, and former Oredigger captain and current assistant coach
Grayston DiBlasi will walk across the stage for a second time, earning his master's degree in mechanical engineering. DiBlasi was selected as the President's Senior Scholar-Athlete for his graduating class, an award given to the most outstanding graduate for both their academic and athletic achievement. A two-time Academic All-American and NCAA qualifier in his career, DiBlasi won 95 bouts to rank third all-time in wins at Mines. He won the 2023 NCAA Elite 90 award for the top GPA at the NCAA Championships, and was a three-time RMAC Academic Wrestler of the Year. His career winning percentage of 77.2% ranks fourth all-time at Mines, and he is fifth in pins with 27. DiBlasi captained Mines' 2025 RMAC championship team.
