Orediggers Drop Twin Bill at SWOSU

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Saturday saw both ends of a doubleheader go to Southwestern Oklahoma State as the Colorado School of Mines Baseball team fell by scores of 18-7 and 5-2.

The setbacks didn't come without plenty of highlights. Mason Andrews and Alex Dunagan both hit home runs. Tyler Pina batted .667 with a double, one run, and four walks. Jackson Babcock and Evan Bilter both had three-hit days as Bilter stacked a triple and four RBI across the two games. Jackson Woolwine had a multi-hit day as well, notching a double and scoring four times. Gray St. Amant and Grady Booth were the pitchers of decision. In relief, Nicholas Spidel, Nick Lacson and Grant Reising all recorded 0.00 ERAs. Cade Burghardt, Carter Gorling, and Matthew Dobberthien all came out of the bullpen as well.

As a team, Mines (0-3) only hit .264 while SWOSU batted .411. The Orediggers rebounded in the field, committing just one error across 14 innings after seven miscues on Friday. Seven home runs for the Bulldogs set the home team apart. On the mound, Mines' arms issued 10 walks and 10 strikeouts. Southwestern Oklahoma State walked nine and struck out 12. Zane Leonard and Tyler Leachner were the winning pitchers. Greg Ross notched a save.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game one of the day saw the home team put up multiple runs in the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth innings. Mines shut out the Bulldogs in the sixth, but it was too little too late. The Oredigger offense benefitted from Andrews' three-run bomb in the second inning and single runs in the third, fourth, sixth, and seventh frames. Woolwine and Bilter both had multiple hits and an extra-base hit each. Game two featured far less scoring overall, but it all happened early. Three runs in the first and two more in the second put SWOSU ahead. Bilter's two-run single in the top of the third was all the scoring Mines could manage. The fourth, fifth, sixth, and seven innings all resulted in zeroes on the scoreboard.

NOTABLES
- Andrews' home run was the 39th of his career. He ranks #2 in program history, now seven tanks back of tying Mikey Gangwish (2016-19).
- Andrews also moved up to #5 on Mines' all-time runs list and took sole possession of #10 for career RBI.
- Dunagan hit the fourth home run of his collegiate career.
- Woolwine tied Adam Houghtaling (2021-23) in career doubles by hitting his 40th as a collegian.
- Wayne Moeck and Woolwine both moved up the Orediggers' all-time walks list.
- Oredigger Head Coach Robby Bales is now 146-108 in his seventh season leading Mines.
