Teams with a "B" seeding will go in the first heat with "A" seeding times going in the second heat. All events for the entire week will feature women first and men second. After opening night on Tuesday, each day will feature three different sessions. On Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, swimming prelims start at 10 a.m. each morning. Diving prelims go off at 1 p.m. each day. Finals for all events competed earlier along with relays in the day will start at 5:30 p.m. Fans can view the full, detailed schedule at the
meet central page.
HOW TO SCORE
The 2025 RMAC Swimming & Diving Championships will use the standard collegiate swimming championship scoring structure – used earlier this season at the TYR/CMU Invitational. The top-16 individual swimmers from the swimming preliminaries will advance to the evening finals. In those evening sessions, there will be an eight-person championship final and an eight-person consolation finals. Team points will be awarded to all 16 in the finals in the following amounts with first place getting 20 teams points and 16th place getting one team point (20-17-16-15-14-13-12-11-9-7-6-5-4-3-2-1). Diving events will also be scored in the same manner. It's also worth noting that the 1000-free and 1650-free do not have preliminary rounds. Relay events, which also don't have preliminary heats, are worth double the team points, and "B" relay teams will swim in a separate heat with a shot at ninth place overall. Individual swimmers can score in up to four individual and seven total events. Each team is limited to 18 scoring athletes.
AVAILABLE HARDWARE
Included on the list of available awards this week is First-Team All-RMAC, Second-Team All-RMAC, Swimmer of the Year, Diver of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Coach of the Year. Each award will be given to each gender. First-Team All-RMAC status goes to the first-place, and second-place swimmers in individual events, and the top-two relay teams as well. Second-Team All-RMAC is earned by the third and fourth finishing swimmers in individuals events and the third and fourth relay teams. Swimmer and Diver of the Year is voted on by the coaches with a tie resulting in co-awards. Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year are also voted on by the coaches.
LAST YEAR'S CHAMPIONSHIPS
At the 2024 RMAC Swimming & Diving Championships, the Oredigger men and women swept silver in the team standings. Mines Head Coach
Claire McDaniel was also voted RMAC Men's Swimming Coach of the Year – marking the third such award of her career. During the week,
Jordan Tierney swept individual gold in the 100-breast and 200-breast.
Annie Osmun also found gold in the 100-fly. The third such finish of her career. Overall, on the women's side, Mines totaled seven medals, had five First-Team All-RMAC finishes, and three Second-Team All-RMAC finishes. The Oredigger men gathered 11 medals, posted six First-Team All-RMAC finishes and eight Second-Team All-RMAC finishes.
IN THE RANKINGS
A new batch of national rankings came out earlier this month. The latest College Swimming and Diving Coaches' Association of America (CSCAA) Division II Top 25 dual meet poll saw Mines' men and women hold strong at #23 and #18, respectively. Both rankings match each team's best ranking of the current academic year. Tampa's men and Colorado Mesa's women topped their respective lists. Colorado Mesa's men are ranked #4 with Simon Fraser's men at #18. Simon Fraser's women are ranked #13 and Oklahoma Christian's women's squad is receiving votes. The polls are voted on by a committee consisting of Division II coaches and is meant to reflect the top dual meet teams in all of NCAA Division II. The national rankings are not meant to predict the top finishers in a championship meet format.
PRESEASON POLLS
The eve of the conference championships seems like a great time to revisit the coaches' preseason polls. Mines' men were tied for #2 and the Oredigger women were voted #3. Colorado Mesa topped both lists. The rest of the men's poll had Oklahoma Christian tied with Mines, Simon Fraser #4, UT Permian Basin #5, and Adams State #6. Simon Fraser was picked #2 in the women's poll with Oklahoma Christian #4, Western Colorado #5, UT Permian Basin #6, CSU Pueblo #7, Nebraska-Kearney #8, and Adams State #9.

ACADEMIC ACCOLADES
Both the Oredigger men and women were named Scholar All-America Teams on Feb. 3 by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches' Association of America (CSCAA). The Oredigger men and women claimed the distinction thanks to their combined work in the classroom. Mines' 22-man roster worked together for a team grade-point average (GPA) of 3.49 for the term. Nineteen Oredigger women posted a team GPA of 3.61 for the fall. The prestigious recognition requires a team to achieve a GPA above 3.0 during the fall 2024 semester.
RMAC SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Jakson Winn was named RMAC Swimmer of the Week on Jan. 22 following his outstanding performances during Mines' home finale against Wyoming. It marked the first weekly award of Winn's career. Against NCAA Division I competition, Winn collected three gold medals and one silver. Individually, the Washington native won the 50-back in 24.39. He was also the lead swimmer on the winning 400-medley relay which posted a combined time of 3:25.67. His anchor on the 400-freestyle relay led to a first-place finish in 3:07.03 as well. The Orediggers' 200-freestyle relay took second in 1:25.06 with Winn as anchor too.
POOL RECORD FOR BURNS
During the Senior Day Intrasquad,
Luca Burns led off the 200-medley relay and ended up breaking his own pool record in the 50-back. He turned in a split of 22.92 which marked the first 50-back under 23 seconds ever produced in the Mines Natatorium. Burns owned the previous record as well. Now, along with that facility record, the Texan owns the program records in the 50-back, 100-back, 200-back, and as part of the 400-medley relay.
RECORD RELAY
At the TYR/CMU Invitational in November, Mines' women absolutely flew in the 400-freestyle relay in the final session on the final day of racing. The Oredigger quartet of
Jennifer Pierson,
Jordan Tierney,
Maggie Wells, and
Kylie VanderMeer posted an actual time of 3:28.24 which dropped to 3:27.84 when adjusted for altitude both marks were good enough for the program record book. That performance knocked off the previous record which was set during the 2019-20 season. It marks the first program record of the season for Mines' men or women.
NEW MAN ON DECK
Noah Hensley joined the Mines swimming staff over the summer as the second fulltime assistant coach in program history. Hensley brings nearly a decade of experience as a student-athlete and coach at the collegiate level. Most recently, the four-time NCAA All-American was the associate head coach for the men's and women's swimming & diving teams at NCAA Division I Miami University of Ohio. His resume also includes stops at IU Indianapolis (formerly IUPUI) and North Carolina State University where he also competed as a student-athlete. Fans can check out Hensley's full profile
HERE.
ADDITIONAL ADDITIONS
Head Coach
Claire McDaniel enhanced her staff further by hiring assistant coach
Jackie Mudd and graduate assistant
Colin Fenster. Mudd comes to Mines after competing collegiately at Biola University in California. She's originally from Littleton, Colo., and graduated from Columbine High School. Fenster was a student-athlete at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. That duo, combined with the aforementioned Hensley, join veteran assistant
Andy Foley to round out the entire Oredigger staff led by McDaniel.
AT THE HELM
Colorado School of Mines Swimming Head Coach
Claire McDaniel is in her sixth season at the helm for the Oredigger men and women. McDaniel won her third RMAC Coach of the Year on the men's side after guiding the Orediggers to team silver at the 2023-24 RMAC Swimming & Diving Championships. She also owns three RMAC Coach of the Year awards on the women's side. Through five seasons, McDaniel has coached five RMAC Swimmers of the Year, four RMAC Freshmen of the Year, and 25 all-American performances including 21 individual events and four relays.
UP NEXT
Following the conference championships, Mines has one more guaranteed event. It's the Maverick Last Chance Qualifier on Feb. 24 at Colorado Mesa. After that, the Orediggers will await the announcement of selections for the 2025 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships which will run March 13-16 in Geneva, Ohio.
