THREE MEETS ON THE WEEKEND SCHEDULE FOR MINES
It will be a busy weekend for Colorado School of Mines track & field as they host the Mines Midweek Meet on Thursday before sending a selection of distance runners to the Chuck Haering Invitational in Pueblo on Friday and The TEN in California on Saturday. Mines opened the outdoor season last weekend in Pueblo and hopes to expand on early success this week.

LIVE COVERAGE
Live results for the Mines Midweek Meet and The TEN linked above; the Chuck Haering Invitational link will be announced Thursday on the Mines track schedule page. The TEN will also be broadcast live on FloTrack (subscription required).

MINES HOSTING MIDWEEK TRIANGULAR
With the unfavorable weather conditions last weekend and this weekend in Pueblo, the Orediggers put together a triangular meet this Thursday for sprinters and field athletes as MSU Denver and Colorado visit Stermole Track. There will be no admission charge for fans to attend, but spectators are reminded they must pay for campus parking before 5 p.m. on weekdays.

The meet, tentatively set to start at 1 p.m. Thursday, will feature distances 800m and below on the track, plus the discus, hammer, and shot put in the throws field and the pole vault, long jump, and high jump on the infield at Stermole Track. A final schedule will be posted to the Mines Track schedule page Wednesday evening after entries close.

DISTANCE TRIO COMPETES IN PUEBLO
Originally scheduled to be a two-day meet this weekend, CSU Pueblo's Chuck Haering Invitational was pushed entirely to Friday due to the weather forecast and so Mines will send only three men's 5,000m runners in Jeremy Gillett, Rowan Nicholas, and Chandler Wilburn instead of its full team. The trio will compete at 9:10 a.m. It will mark the official outdoor and 5K debuts for all three redshirt freshman, who each competed in the 3,000m indoors this season.

RAMSEY-RUTLEDGE, SCOMPARIN CHASE RECORDS AT THE TEN
Saturday will see the Mines distance duo of Jenna Ramsey-Rutledge and Loic Scomparin head to California in an attempt to make history at The TEN, an elite distance carnival that brings together the nation's best 10,000m runners. Past editions have set more than a dozen national records and both the men's and women's American records; the meet will not count toward NCAA qualification due to the number of events offered, but does count toward records. Ramsey-Rutledge and Scomparin will attack the NCAA Division II 10K records as Ramsey-Rutledge runs in the SPIKE Women's 10,000m at 7:20 p.m. PT and Scomparin follows in the SPIKE Men's 10,000m at 8 p.m. PT.

Ramsey-Rutledge, coming off the NCAA Indoor 5,000m title, already owns the NCAA D-II record in that event inside at 15:40.98; her 10K PR of 35:28.15 (at altitude) came at the 2023 NCAA Championships as she attacks the national record of 32:08.09 set in 2019 by Alaska Anchorage's Caroline Kurgat. Zoe Baker owns the Mines record of 33:52.75. The D-II men's 10K record of 27:48.06 has stood since 2008, and only one man - the recordholder Scott Bauhs of Chico State - has ever run sub-28:00. Scomparin holds a PR of 29:09.66 set at the 2023 Portland Distance Carnival and is in-form coming off his double-silver performance in the 3K and 5K at NCAA Indoors. The Mines record stands at 28:22.78 set by Dillon Powell in 2022.

JARNAGIN WINS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK AWARD
Earlier on Wednesday, Oredigger thrower Jennifer Jarnagin was named the RMAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week after a standout hammer performance in Pueblo last weekend. Jarnagin threw 55.39m - the #2 performance all-time at Mines - to top the early RMAC performance list and rank #2 in NCAA Division II on opening weekend. The performance was an NCAA provisional mark.

LAST WEEK
Mines won six events as they opened the outdoor season at the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Invitational at CSU Pueblo. Athletes had to battle extremely windy conditions in Pueblo as Mines worked through sprints, middle distance, and field events at the meet; Kitt Rupar was a double winner in the throws circle, Everett Delate and Lisa Sutherland took their respective hurdle races, and Mines swept the pole vault thanks to Aidan Bennett and Dale Thompson.

MINES MEN TOP PROGRAM OF THE YEAR STANDINGS
The Mines men were first and the women fifth after the indoor season in the USTFCCCA's Program of the Year standings announced Tuesday. The award combines NCAA team finishes in all three seasons - cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field - to crown the best overall program nationally each spring. Teams get the same number of points as their finish, and the Mines men lead the standings with four points (first in cross country, third indoors) and the women are fifth with 16 (fifth in cross country, 11th indoors). It marks the Mines men's lowest point total through the first two seasons after they notched their best-ever NCAA Indoor finish earlier this month.

SPARKS, VAN SICKLE WIN COACHING HONORS
Mines head coach Matt Sparks and middle distance coach Scott Van Sickle earned the USTFCCCA's South Central Head Coach and Assistant Coach of the Year awards, respectively, on March 21. Sparks, in his 12th year as the Orediggers' head coach, led the men's team to a best-ever third-place finish at the 2025 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, earning First-Team All-America honors in six events including three silver medals. Mines also finished in second at the RMAC Indoor Championships despite scoring its most points ever with 160, winning six men's events. Van Sickle guided the Oredigger middle distance runners to a resurgent 2025 season, coaching new program records in the 400m, 4x400 relay, and distance medley relay. His runners contributed greatly to the Orediggers' RMAC and NCAA success as Jonah Fallon and Tim Thompson won the RMAC titles at 400m and 800m, respectively, and the DMR finished on the NCAA podium in fifth place.

NCAA INDOOR REWIND
The Mines men finished a best-ever third and the women were 11th as the Orediggers wrapped up the indoor season at the NCAA Championships earlier this month. Jenna Ramsey-Rutledge won the national title in the 5,000m while Mines had three silver medalists - Loic Scomparin in the 3K and 5K and Everett Delate in the 60m hurdles - plus the women's pole vault bronze medalist in Hayley Rayburn. The men also scored with Hunter Potrykus in the pole vault, Holden Murphy in the weight throw and the distance medley relay getting on the podium, while the women added Claire Kintzley's first all-America honor in the triple jump.

MINES WOMEN ACHIEVE RMAC THREEPEAT
The Oredigger women captured their third consecutive title and the men scored a program-record 160 points to place second overall at the RMAC Indoor Championships on March 1. Mines was all over the podium, crowning nine individual champions including double-gold-medalist Loic Scomparin in the 3,000m and 5,000m. Athlete of the Meet Avery Wright won the pentathlon, took silver in the 60m hurdles, bronze in the 4x400, and scored in the shot put, while Mines' middle distance was strong with wins in the 400m by Jonah Fallon and 800m by Tim Thompson. Jennifer Jarnagin won the women's weight throw, Everett Delate defended his hurdles crown, and Nick Stade captured the heptathlon title to give Mines a multis sweep.

USTFCCCA ANNOUNCES ALL-AMERICA AND ALL-REGION HONORS
Mines was well-represented on the USTFCCCA's indoor all-America and all-region teams announced last week. The Orediggers had a dozen individuals plus a relay earn first- or second-team all-America honors based on their finishes at the NCAA Championships, and 24 individuals and a relay were named all-South Central.

IN THE POLLS
Although the outdoor polls have yet to start up, the final USTFCCCA National Ratings Index for the indoor season had the Mines men #5 and the women #8. The two sat in the top 10 all season long, and at seven polls, it marked the longest consecutive stretch of simultaneous top-10 rankings for the Oredigger men and women.

RECORD SETTERS
The 2024-25 Oredigger squad now includes 14 active individual recordholders, plus two relays. For the men, Loic Scomparin (3K), Everett Delate (60H), Jonah Fallon (400), the men's 4x400 and DMR, Holden Murphy (WT), Franklin Rambo (SP), and Hunter Potrykus (PV) are all atop their events, while Avery Wright (60H and pentathlon), Margaux Basart (3K), Jenna Ramsey-Rutledge (5K), Kitt Rupar (SP), Claire Kintzley (TJ) and Hayley Rayburn (PV) have their names on the women's indoor record wall. Allison Comer also owns the outdoor 400 hurdles record set last season, and Wright has the outdoor heptathlon mark.

LOOKING AHEAD
Mines is set to compete Friday, April 4 at the Stanford Invite in California and April 4 and 5 at the Jerry Quiller Classic in Boulder. The Orediggers are next home April 11-12 hosting the Kit Mayer Classic.
