COLORADO SPRINGS – The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team went on the road Saturday and dropped a 3-0 match to UCCS.
Hailee Martinez provided the Orediggers a sliver of light in the sweep. She turned in a 24-assist, 12-dig double-double while going 2-for-2 on the attack with a 1.000 hitting percentage and one service ace.
Amanda Donais Dudley and
Francesca Nuzzo provided eight kills each. Nuzzo converted at a .368 clip on the attack, had 10 digs, and posted one block as well. At the net,
Abbie O'Shay had five total blocks and Donais Dudley finished touting four total blocks. In the box score, UCCS (9-0, 1-0 RMAC) won most of the statistical categories. The biggest difference came at the service line where the Mountain Lions churned out six service aces and Mines (7-3, 0-2 RMAC) only had one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Visiting Orediggers appeared to be in control early with a 14-8 lead in the first set. However, the home team rallied and took a 25-23 win. Donais Dudley and
Jenna McLaughlin both posted three kills, Martinez handed out 10 assists, and the duo of
Jada Price and Nuzzo combined for eight digs. Six ties and four lead changes in game two made the frame exciting, but the Orediggers till dropped a 25-21 decision. Martinez did manage five more digs in the game. Mines did everything it could in a third set which featured 10 ties and six lead changes.
Cadence McDonald even came off the bench for four kills on .571 hitting. In the end, UCCS clinched the sweep with a 25-23 win.
