The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team continues its early conference slate this weekend with a pair of home Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) showdowns against the Grizzlies of Adams State and the Cowgirls of New Mexico Highlands. Friday's match features a 7 p.m. start. Saturday's action goes off at 5 p.m. The Orediggers are chasing their first RMAC victory of the season and are hopeful for two this weekend.

RMAC NETWORK CHANGES
This fall, the
RMAC Network moved to a pay-per-view model for all events. Fans can purchase monthly and annual subscriptions that will provide them access to all regular-season, championship, and archived broadcasts on the RMAC Network. A monthly subscription costs $25, and an annual subscription costs $130. Single-game passes are available for $10, which grants access to a single game for 24 hours. LAST WEEKEND
Mines started the RMAC portion of it schedule last weekend. The Orediggers hosted #4 MSU Denver on Friday at Lockridge Arena and traveled to UCCS on Saturday. Friday's match was five-set thriller which eventually went to the visiting Roadrunners. Mines rallied back from an 0-2 deficit to force a fifth set, but fell just shy of the reverse sweep.
Amanda Donais Dudley had a 13-kill, 15-dig double-double with two blocks as well.
Hailee Martinez posted her own double-double thanks to 45 assists and 13 digs. She added four error-free kills too. Additionally,
Jenna McLaughlin and
Tori Garrett combined for 21 kills and
Francesca Nuzzo churned out 18 digs. On Saturday, the Orediggers fell to the undefeated Mountain Lions in straight sets. Donais Dudley and Nuzzo combined for 16 kills. Martinez produced a 24-assist, 12-dig double-double. Furthermore,
Jada Price and Nuzzo totaled 21 digs.
IN THE POLLS
The Orediggers continued receiving votes in the latest AVCA/TARAFLEX Division II WVB Poll put together by the American Volleyball Coaches' Association. Lynn topped the national list for a third straight week. Other notable teams in the rankings were #5 MSU Denver, #19 Grand Valley State, and t-#24 Colorado Mesa. Just ahead of Mines' 11 votes was UCCS with 13 votes.
MILESTONE UPDATE
Amanda Donais Dudley continues to make the most of her return to Oredigger volleyball. She's quickly approaching multiple career milestones. Donais Dudley currently touts 999 career kills. The Ramona, Calif., native is one ace shy of 100 career service aces as well. One more block will push Donais Dudley to 200 career blocks. Also notable are her 808 career digs. In order to reach 1,000 career digs, she'll need 192 more this season. A couple other Oredigger milestones on the horizon are 1,000 career digs for
Jada Price. She's currently at 905.
SCOUTING ADAMS STATE
Adams State will make the trip from Alamosa, Colo., to Golden with a 4-8 (1-2 RMAC) record in tow. The Grizzlies' four wins came against UT Permian Basin, Arkansas Monticello, South Dakota Mines (non-conference), and New Mexico Highlands. Last weekend, ASU pushed #23 Colorado Mesa and Westminster to five sets in each match, but dropped both contests. On Tuesday, the Grizzlies bounced back by defeating NMHU in straight sets. The team is top-25 in the nation in total kills and total assists. Those rankings are fueled by Hadleigh Richardson whose 179 kills at 4.16 kills per set is individually #5 in the nation in total kills, #19 in kills per set, and #22 in points per set. She's hitting .298 on the attack. Logan Conlin and Ashlyn Jones have combined for 250 digs in the back row. Katie Bauer leads the team thanks to her 33 total blocks. Rowan Tribelhorn averages exactly 1.00 blocks per set.
OREDIGGERS AGAINST THE GRIZZLIES
The all-time volleyball series between Mines and Adams State is tied at 35. Last season, ASU snapped a 14-match losing streak against the Orediggers by sweeping Mines in Golden. That puts the Orediggers' mark at 14-1 against the Grizzlies since 2014 and 20-4 since 2006. Last year's lone meeting featured eight kills off the hand of
Kate Kudlac, six total blocks from Allison Janson, and 10 digs by
Jada Price.
SCOUTING NEW MEXICO HIGHLANDS
After facing Adams State on Tuesday, the Cowgirls won't play another match until Saturday against the Orediggers. They'll face Mines with a 4-7 (0-3 RMAC) record. Westminster down NMHU in five sets before #23 Colorado Mesa and ASU both swept the Cowgirls. Non-conference victories were against Eastern New Mexico, Sul Ross State, Western New Mexico, and Northwestern Oklahoma State. Individually, Aziza Morris' 107 kills are tops on the team. No player with more than one total attempt is hitting over .250. Setting duties are split between Naya Dornic and Abby Carlsen. Meg Pfannerstill boasts 19 aces. Defensively, Becca Wiersema, Pfannerstill, and Dornic all tout over 100 digs apiece. Yuli Favela leads the block with 19 total stuffs.
OREDIGGERS AGAINST THE COWGIRLS
Mines volleyball owns a 35-29 advantage in the all-time series against New Mexico Highlands. Prior to last season, the Orediggers had taken 16 consecutive matches from the Cowgirls. The 2024 meeting ended in a 3-2 victory for NMHU, snapping the losing streak which dated back to 2005. Mines did not drop a single set to New Mexico Highlands from 2018-23. Last season's lone meeting in Las Vegas, N.M., saw
Jenna McLaughlin hammer down nine kills on .533 hitting.
Jada Price had 16 digs and
Morgan McChesney tallied three total blocks.
SHE'S BAAAAAACK
Amanda Donais Dudley played for the Mines from 2018-21 and was an all-American as a senior. She finished her bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and graduated in the spring of 2022. However, Donais Dudley still had a year of college eligibility remaining due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So, when she decided to come back to Mines for a master's degree in mechanical engineering, she decided to play some more volleyball. The 2025 season will be Donais Dudley's final collegiate campaign.
STANDING IN THE HALL OF FAME
Five-time all-American Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood was announced as a member of the Mines Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025 over the summer. She will officially enshrined on Oct. 4. One of the most decorated players in Mines volleyball history, Johnson-Hazlewood is one of an elite few Orediggers in any sport to have been a four-year RMAC champion. She led Mines to the conference regular-season titles in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. Johnson-Hazlewood also helped the Orediggers win the RMAC Tournament title as a senior in 2015. AT THE HELM
Head Coach
Jamie Magalei is in her 18th season leading the Mines volleyball program. She is easily the program's all-time leader in total wins and win percentage at 370-142 (.722). Magalei surpassed 300 career wins in 2021. She's one of six to reach the milestone while coaching in the RMAC. Through 2024, Magalei has coached 31 all-America selections, three Academic All-Americans, and 66 all-conference performers. Her resume also includes three Regional Players of the Year, two Regional Freshmen of the Year, and 16 RMAC major award winners. Magalei has guided Mines to six RMAC regular-season championships, and five RMAC Tournament titles with 13 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances from 2009-22 (no NCAA tournament in 2020). The North Dakota native also guided the Orediggers to either a conference regular-season or tournament title every season from 2012-21 including a sweep of both in 2015.
UP NEXT
After this weekend, Mines will host Colorado Christian on Tuesday, Sept. 30, and #5 MSU Denver on Friday, Oct. 3, as part of the RMAC Regional Pod. Friday's match will be in Volk Gym due to homecoming festivities. Both contests will have live video available with a subscription to the RMAC Network.
