OREDIGGERS SQUARE OFF WITH WESTERN COLORADO
#21 Colorado School of Mines' RMAC schedule continues Saturday as the Orediggers (6-2, 1-1 RMAC) make the trip to Gunnison to face Western Colorado (6-2, 0-0) at Paul Wright Gym. The 6 p.m. dual continues a long rivalry between the two as Mines hopes to bounce back from its dual setback at Chadron State last weekend.

Saturday's dual will stream live on the RMAC Network with live results on Trackwrestling.com. 

Beginning this fall, the RMAC Network is moving to a pay-per-view model for all events. Fans can purchase monthly and annual subscriptions that will provide them access to all regular-season, championship, and archived broadcasts on the RMAC Network. MINES READIES TO HOST NCAA REGIONALS
Tickets are now on sale for the NCAA Division II Super Region VI Championships, which will be hosted by Mines at Lockridge Arena on Feb. 28. The one-day meet, which qualifies wrestlers to the national championships, is returning to Golden for the first time since 2017. Fans can reserve their spot at tickets.minesathletics.com. 

IN THE RANKINGS
Mines appeared in the latest NWCA rankings out in mid-December tied for #21 in the team tournament standings. This week, Mines has three ranked individuals with Cody Thompson (149) ranked #2 by both the NWCA and OpenMat, Jakob Smith (174) ranked #14 by OpenMat, and Wyatt Reisz (184) at #18 from OpenMat. Western Colorado, which is receiving votes in the NWCA team poll, has #11/12 Vincent Cabral (157) along an OpenMat ranking of #20 for Devin Gomez (125).

THE HISTORY
The Mines-Western Colorado series goes back to their first meeting in 1950, and the two will wrestle for the 81st time this weekend. WCU leads the all-time series 51-29, but the Orediggers have won five of their last six meetings, including a 27-12 victory in Golden last year. Mines is trying to win in Gunnison for the first time since the 2021-22 season.

LEADING THE WAY
Cody Thompson enters the weekend as Mines' active leader in career wins at 56-17, while Wyatt Reisz, who ended his sophomore year in his first NCAA Championships appearance, is 48-17. Marcus Caro leads the team in wins this season at 11-7 with Brandon Cody and Deringer Hollenbeck each having 10 victories. Hollenbeck's six falls are the most on the team, while Thompson leads the Orediggers in dual points scored with 35 followed by Jakob Smith's 30. Both Thompson (8-0) and Mason Diel (7-0) remain unbeaten this season. 

AT THE HELM
Head Coach Austin DeVoe is in his 12th season in charge of the Mines Wrestling program, having rebuilt the Orediggers into a national contender with three RMAC titles, eight all-Americans, and eight Academic All-Americans in his tenure. With 91 dual wins under his belt, Mines has had seven consecutive winning dual seasons including the only three double-digit win seasons in program history, including tying the program wins record in 2022-23 with an 11-2 record and surpassing it with 13 in 2024-25. On the national stage, Mines has had team success as well including an 11th-place finish in 2022 which was the program's best finish since the 1990s. 

DIBLASI EARNS COMMENCEMENT HONOR
Former Oredigger captain and current assistant coach Grayston DiBlasi walked across the commencement stage for a second time on Dec. 19, earning his master's degree in mechanical engineering. DiBlasi was selected as the President's Senior Scholar-Athlete for his graduating class, an award given to the most outstanding graduate for both their academic and athletic achievement. A two-time Academic All-American and NCAA qualifier in his career, DiBlasi won 95 bouts to rank third all-time in wins at Mines. He won the 2023 NCAA Elite 90 award for the top GPA at the NCAA Championships, and was a three-time RMAC Academic Wrestler of the Year. His career winning percentage of 77.2% ranks fourth all-time at Mines, and he is fifth in pins with 27. DiBlasi captained Mines' 2025 RMAC championship team.
