GUNNISON, Colo. - #21 Colorado School of Mines won seven weight classes as it pulled away from Western Colorado in a 27-12 dual victory Saturday night.

The Orediggers (7-2, 2-1 RMAC) rallied back from an early 9-0 deficit to win seven of the last eight bouts, taking control of the dual thanks to Coen Schmidt's pin at 141 pounds and a first-period technical fall by #2 Cody Thompson at 149.

The Mountaineers (6-3, 0-1 RMAC) got on top in the first two weight classes, first when Devin Gomez won an overtime thriller against Jake Goodin, 16-13, and then extending the lead as Hunter Samora had to retire at 133 in a medical forfeit. Mines got on the board when Schmidt pinned Ty Reeves in the second period, and Thompson's dominance was on display as he scored at will in a 20-5 win over Celestino Gonzales to give Mines an 11-9 lead.

WCU temporarily retook the dual lead with #11 Vincent Cabral's 8-4 decision over Brandon Cody, but Mines didn't lose after that as Marcus Caro worked a 10-2 major decision against Jacob Blandford at 165 before Jakob Smith's defensive showcase gave him an 8-2 win against Miles Harris to take control of the dual. Wyatt Reisz beat Hunter Richardson, 10-4, at 184, and Mason Diel earned a tight 3-2 victory against Sage Harrison before Laith Ibrahim closed out with a 5-2 decision over Riley Butt.

Both Thompson (9-0) and Diel (8-0) remained unbeaten this season with their wins, while Caro's victory was his team-leading 12th of the campaign.

Mines is back in action Jan. 23 visiting Colorado Mesa.
