In this week's OpenMat rankings, Thompson is #8 in his weight class along with Jakob Smith (#15 at 174) and Wyatt Reisz (#18 at 184) staying put with their rankings.

IN THE STANDINGS
Chadron State (3-0) and Adams State (2-0) are the only unbeatens left in RMAC competition as they face off Saturday night for the top spot in the conference standings. Mines is in third place at 3-1, and could keep themselves alive in the championship hunt with a win over Adams State this week.

THE HISTORY
This will be the 65th all-time meeting between Mines and Adams State in a series stretching back to 1953. The Grizzlies hold a 41-23 series lead but Mines has won two straight and eight of the last nine dating back to 2016. Last year, the Orediggers won 25-13 in Alamosa led by five upperweight wins including bonus-point victories from Wyatt Reisz and Mason Diel.

LEADING THE WAY
Heading into the final month of the season, Marcus Caro (13-7) leads the team in wins overall with both Brandon Cody (10-3) and Deringer Hollenbeck (10-7) sitting on 10 wins. Hollenbeck's six falls also lead the team. In duals, Cody Thompson's 40 points generated from nine wins leads Mines with Jakob Smith (37) and Mason Diel (32) second and third, respectively, in dual points. Diel remains the lone unbeaten Oredigger this season at 9-0 as he has moved up from 184 to 197 in recent weeks.

THE 50-WIN CLUB
Cody Thompson is Mines' active career leader in wins at 57-18, and Wyatt Reisz joined him in the 50-win club with his victory at Colorado Mesa, putting him at 50-17 in his third season at Mines. Reisz is 7-3 this season wrestling as he has moved up from 174 pounds to wrestle at 184 and 197 over the past month.

AT THE HELM
Head Coach Austin DeVoe is in his 12th season in charge of the Mines Wrestling program, having rebuilt the Orediggers into a national contender with three RMAC titles, eight all-Americans, and eight Academic All-Americans in his tenure. With 93 dual wins under his belt, Mines has had seven consecutive winning dual seasons including the only three double-digit win seasons in program history, including tying the program wins record in 2022-23 with an 11-2 record and surpassing it with 13 in 2024-25. On the national stage, Mines has had team success as well including an 11th-place finish in 2022 which was the program's best finish since the 1990s.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Orediggers will also host CSU Pueblo Feb. 6 in the Blaster's Brawl dual at Volk before facing off against Simon Fraser at Lockridge Arena on Feb. 13 in the leadup to the NCAA regional meet.
