Campos, Rouse Power Mines Past Westminster Sunday

SALT LAKE CITY – The Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team closed out their four-match road trip with a 4-1 win over Westminster Sunday at Dumke Field. The Orediggers (9-3-3, 5-2-2) crashed the party on Senior Day for the Griffins (6-4-2, 4-3-2), as a first half hat trick from Bella Campos along with a set-piece header by Natalie Rouse earned them three crucial points toward the conference standings.

Bella Campos scored the first goal of the afternoon in the 16th minute. A Griffin turnover by midfield forced by Gaby Guerrero was collected up by Jordan Bowermaster as she played it forward to Bella Torres. Torres dished wide to Ewald who played a dime to Campos at the top of the six-yard box as she headed it home on the near post for the score. The score doubled in the 20th minute, as Rouse headed home a shot off the crossbar and in on a far side corner kick by Guerrero. Campos scored again in the 23rd minute to cap off the early offensive outburst. A long ball from deep in Mines' own end by Sam Forde was headed up on a deflection by a Westminster player, but won down by Campos. Campos slipped a defender and with keeper Marin Mackenzie bearing down, managed to get a shot off before she too hit the deck that sailed into the net to make it 3-0 Mines.

The Griffins got on the board in the 31st minute thanks to Carly Bramwell. Trying to play it back across field in their own end, the Orediggers turned it over as Forde's pass to Rouse was intercepted by Bramwell. She raced the other way beating both defenders and getting a shot off around a sliding block attempt by Keira Garcia to make it a 3-1 game. Mines answered with their fourth goal of the half in the 42nd minute, thanks once more to Campos. A cross in by Lindsay Jeans was broken up by Mackenzie as the ball deflected back into play for Campos as she cleaned up the play with a left-footed finish to make it 4-1 heading to halftime.

That score held up over the 45 minutes as the Orediggers failed to add to their advantage, while also stifling the Griffins in their bid for a comeback. Madisen Powers and Forde each put a ball on frame for Mines in the second half against Mackenzie with no success, while Garcia saved WU's only shot on goal at the buzzer by Abigail Austin to secure the win and three valuable points.
