Kehe’s Bombs Lead Orediggers to Doubleheader Split

GOLDEN, Colo. – Trevor Kehe jacked his first two home runs of the season Saturday as the Colorado School of Mines Baseball team split its doubleheader with St. Edward's, falling 10-3 in the opener and winning 12-2 in the second game.

Kehe hit his first bomb of the season in game one and his second tank in game two. He finished the day 3-for-5 with three runs and five RBI. Jace Selsor also collected three hits on the day and scored one run with a double. Joe Popp and Derek Daly both went 2-for-6 and scored two runs each.

On the mound, Drew Burman (2-0) was the star, getting the start and the win in game two behind 5.0 innings of four-hit, one-run baseball while striking out four. Jake Ekstrom (0-1) was dealt the loss in game one in his second start of the season. Owen Starr, Sam Slusser, Matt Martin and Max Moxley all put in work out of the bullpen.

With the split, Mines (4-2) remains two games over .500. St. Edward's falls to 4-4.

Game One: St. Edward's 10, Mines 3
St. Edward's opened the game with a bang as William Hairston and Blake Alexander hit home runs in the opening frame to take a 3-0 lead. However, Mines responded in the bottom of the second inning thanks to Mike Gangwish's second home run of the season, a two-run tank to make it 3-2, SEU.

The Hilltoppers extended their lead with two runs in the third, but the Orediggers struck back as Kehe mashed a tater in the bottom of the sixth to cut St. Edward's lead to two runs.

Five runs for the visitors in the top of the seventh inning put the game out of reach for Mines.

Game Two: Mines 12, St. Edward's 2
The Orediggers took a page out of their opponents book in game two as they dropped five runs on the Hilltoppers in the bottom of the opening frame. Wardle led off by wearing a pitch on his left hip and then stole a base. Selsor drove in Wardle and it was all Orediggers from there as Mines capped the inning with five runs on four hits.

Kehe hit his second home run of the day in the bottom of the second inning to make it 6-0, Mines before St. Edward's got on the board in the third frame. Ryan McPhail hit his second home run of the weekend to make it 6-1.

Six more runs on three hits in the fifth inning put the Orediggers in complete control. A run for St. Edward's in the top of the seventh made the final tally.
