Hot-Hitting Orediggers Take Down ThunderWolves, 14-3

GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Baseball team took down CSU-Pueblo Friday behind four home runs and two doubles, slugging .711 as a team in its 14-3 victory.

Joe Popp was the man of the game, going 2-for-4 with two home runs and six RBI. Mikey Gangwish and Trevor Kehe also went long as they combined for five runs and four RBI. A total of five Orediggers scored multiple runs while four recorded multiple hits.

Drew Burman (4-0) got the win and remained undefeated in the fourth start of his career. He went 5.0 innings, surrendering two runs on six hits with four strikeouts. Matt Martin came in from the bullpen and struck out four in three innings of relief. Drew Hill also pitched one shutout inning. Danny Honorof (0-1) received the loss for CSU-Pueblo.

The ThunderWolves (9-9, 1-4 RMAC) carried a no-hitter into the third inning with three hits of their own. Daniel Ciraula broke it up for Mines (8-4, 4-1 RMAC) with a bunt single down the third-base line. Despite no runs in the third inning, and one run for The Pack in the fourth, the Orediggers came up big in the bottom half.

Jace Selsor led off the bottom of the fourth with a single and ended up scoring following a pair of CSU-Pueblo miscues. Kehe reached on a fielder's choice and Derek Daly walked to set up Popp's first home run of the game to make it 4-1, Mines.

The fifth inning was the final nail as the Orediggers racked up 10 runs on eight hits. Kehe led off the inning with his home run to left-center field. Popp hit his second home run of the game and Gangwish capped it off with his fifth home run of the season.

The ThunderWolves manged just one more run on one hit with a solo home run in the eighth inning. Martin and Hill came in from the bullpen to clinch the win.
