ALAMOSA, Colo. – The No. 23-ranked Colorado School of Mines Baseball team completed its series sweep of Adams State Sunday with a 15-10 win over the Grizzlies at ASU Baseball Field.
Trevor Kehe and
Mikey Gangwish both came up big at the plate. Gangwish finished the day 5-for-6 with three runs and six RBI on a double and two home runs. Kehe batted .667 with three runs on four hits and two RBI thanks to two doubles and a triple.
Daniel Ciraula and
Joe Popp combined for three runs and two RBI on five hits.
Toby Scoles (1-1) made the start but did not factor in the decision as he surrendered three earned runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work.
Walter Pennington (5-1) earned the win in relief with three runs on four hits with three strikeouts over 5.1 innings. Bryce Rone (0-5) took the loss for Adams State.
It looked to be all Orediggers (26-8, 19-5 RMAC) early as Mines jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first two innings. Gangwish brought Kehe in to score the first inning with his first home run of the game and then drove in three more in the second with a bases clearing double.
Adams State (1-37, 1-23 RMAC) made it a game in the bottom of the fourth inning with seven runs on six hits and one Oredigger error. However, Mines was not done yet as it scored runs in five straight innings to close the game.
Colton Wardle, Ciraula and Kehe sparked four runs in the fifth inning.
Griffin Jones hit a RBI single in the sixth inning while
Jace Selsor and Gangwish made it 13-9 in the top of the seventh. Single runs in the eighth and ninth frames offset two Grizzly runs in the fifth and one in the ninth.
