GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Baseball team dropped a soggy game two to Colorado Christian Saturday as it fell 9-1 at Jim Darden Field.
Mines' bats were mostly silent on the day.
Joe Popp was the lone Oredigger with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.
Mikey Gangwish accounted for the home team's only extra-base hit on the day, going 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.
Colton Wardle scored Mines' lone run after entering the game as a pinch hitter.
On the mound,
Walter Pennington (5-2) suffered just his second loss of the season. The sophomore surrendered five runs on six hits in 2.0 innings of work.
Max Moxley provided 5.2 innings of relief while
Owen Starr and
Jake Roberts closed out the game with 1.1 innings out of the bullpen. CCU's Evan Fink (3-5) got the win.
Colorado Christian (16-20, 11-15 RMAC) took command early with three runs in the first and two more in the second inning. Moxley came out of the 'pen and shut the Cougars out for four straight frames.
Mines (26-10, 19-7 RMAC) broke up the shutout in the bottom of the eighth as Wardle scored on a wild pitch. The Orediggers had the bases loaded as well but could not convert. CCU added four runs of insurance over the last three innings as it cruised to victory.
