GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Men's and Women's Swimming teams had their most successful morning of the 2024 RMAC Swimming & Diving Championships on Thursday as the Orediggers posted eight NCAA-qualifying times while sending 29 to finals in the evening.

Distance action took the spotlight first. Isabello Bono, Maggie Wells, and Julie Gill all finished top-16 for Mines' women and earned berths in the "B" finals of the 500-free. Ronan Lauinger led the Oredigger men in the 500-free by qualifying fifth for a chance at RMAC gold. Joseph Lev-Tov, Lucas Hoke, and Scott Reeder all advanced to the evening session of the 500-free as well. The 100-back prelims proved equally fruitful for Mines. Kerrigan Hemp punched her ticket to the "A" final with Emi Jedryka and Emma Neuroth earning chances to score for the women in the "B" final. Jakson Winn, Luca Burns, and Seth Krause swallowed up three slots in the men's 100-back "A" final and will face off for a conference title on Friday evening.

The back half of prelims featured the 100-breast and 200-fly. In the women's 100-breast, Jordan Tierney qualified for "A" finals with the #1 time in prelims. Cameryn Schmidt will join her for a shot at the top of the podium after qualifying fifth. For the men, Garrett Waite finished third while Jack Engler, Gavin Gilmore, and Gavin Moore went 9-10-15 for chances to score team points for the Orediggers. Rounding out the morning was a dominant 200-fly by both Mines squads. Savannah Karas, Sophia Buhr, Kylie VanderMeer, and Jules Hays went 6-7-9-14 for the women with two advancing to "A" finals and two more into "B" finals. Then, Charles Burroughs, Jaron O'Grady, Max Waring, and Mattie Oberley went 2-3-5-9 for the men.

Mix in with the 29 earned chances to score team points were eight NCAA "B" times. Lauinger's 4:35.19 in the 500-free moved him inside the top-50 in the nation. Lev-Tov and Hoke also produced NCAA "B" cuts in the 500-free at 4:38.27 and 4:38.64, respectively. Tierney stop the clock at 1:03.19 in the 100-breast for yet another NCAA-qualifying time this season. Karas moved inside the top-25 in NCAA Division II in the same event thanks to a 1:03.51. O'Grady capped the NCAA-qualifying action by posting a 1:50.78 to rank top-40 in the 200-fly.
