GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.Vladislav Kazakin struck gold for Colorado School of Mines on Wednesday night at the 2025 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Swimming & Diving Championships.

Kazakin raced to first place in the men's 1000-free in a record-setting time of 9:17.57 to give Mines its first gold medal of the meet. His raw time was a straight-up NCAA "B" cut and his altitude-adjusted time would have ranked top-five in the nation prior to the start of the conference championships. Kazakin's altitude-adjusted pace of 9:06.17 also broke the program record by more than two seconds. It was one of the longest-standing records on the books. The Highlands Ranch High School graduate won by more than eight seconds. Making his race more impressive was teammate Joseph Lev-Tov taking silver in 9:25.94. Furthermore, Luca Hoke was fourth in 9:30.48, and Jake Sherman claimed eighth with a morning time of 9:34.68. The evening race saw Kazakin, Lev-Tov, Hoke finish 1-2-3. All four times were NCAA "B" cuts and pushed Mines ahead of Colorado Mesa in the team standings, if only for a moment.

After one full day and three full sessions of racing, the Oredigger men are #2 in the team standings with 243.5 points, less than 40 back of the defending champion Mavericks. Mines' women sit #3 thanks to 318.5 points. They are less than seven points behind #2 Simon Fraser while Colorado Mesa is atop the standings. Including gold and silver for Kazakin and Lev-Tov, the Orediggers finished Wednesday touting four First-Team All-RMAC finishes, a pair of Second-Team All-RMAC performances, and four program records to along with numerous NCAA "B" cuts.

The evening started with the women's 1000-free where Isabella Bono raced to ninth with a NCAA "B" qualifying pace of 10:28.95. After the final eight swimmers posted their times, Julie Gill, Eden Addison, Maggie Wells, and Elizabeth Powers all recorded team points for the Oredigger women as well. What followed was the previously-described men's 1000-free. Kazakin took gold and Lev-Tov claimed silver for First-Team All-RMAC distinction. Hoke's fourth-place finish granted him Second-Team All-RMAC honors. Morning swims from Sherman, Cameron MacMillan and Jaron O'Grady added seven more points to Mines' team total.

Soon after the excitement of the distance races came the 200-IM, 50-free, and 200-medley relay. Olivia Kisow and Ava Burger competed in the "A" final of the women's 200-IM and finished fifth and eighth, respectively. The "B" and "C" finals brought more points thanks to Zooecia Phoebus, Sophia Buhr, and Savannah Karas. The men's version was similar as Ronan Lauinger claimed fifth and Gavin Moore took seventh. Gavin Gilmore and Andres Saa scored in the "B" final as well. Next, in the women's 50-free, Jennifer Pierson took eighth, Sophia Cristal was 11th, Emi Jedryka was 15th, Jordan Tierney was 17th, Abby Swanson finished 19th, and Kylie VanderMeer tied for 21st. All of that set the stage for Michael Kietzman's record-breaking swim. He finished the men's spring in 20.40, tied for third, claimed Second-Team All-RMAC, and broke the program record by .04 seconds. Mines found additional points in the men's sprint from Sawyer Jones, Jakson Winn, Kevin Burns, Brenden Cook, and Luca Burns.

The final races of the night, the men's and women's 200-medley relays, brought more Oredigger medals, more program records, and additional all-conference distinction. In the women's relay, Mines' top squad of Kerrigan Hemp, Jordan Tierney, Kylie VanderMeer, and Sophia Cristal combined for a silver-medal finish and First-Team All-RMAC accolades. The Oredigger quartet of Emi Jedryka, Ava Burger, Savannah Karas, and Abby Swanson also contributed to the team total. In the men's relay, Jakson Winn, Gavin Gilmore, Jaron O'Grady, and Kevin Burns raced first, and Winn's leadoff leg broke the program's 50-back record. Then, Luca Burns, Joe Hutchinson, Michael Kietzman, and Sawyer Jones teamed up for a silver medal and First-Team All-RMAC while Luca Burns reclaimed his 50-back record with a leadoff split of 22.23.
