GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Baseball team lost twice to #22-ranked Colorado Mesa on Friday at Jim Darden Field by scores of 13-6 and 25-3.
There were still highlights for the home team despite the lopsided scores. In two games,

Mason Andrews' produced a .667 average thanks to two hits including a double. He also scored one run, had two RBI, and worked two walks.

Wayne Moeck's triple and three RBI rounded out the highlights at the plate.
Grady Booth and
Will Niles (1-2) were the starting pitchers for Mines (10-22, 5-10 RMAC). Booth's outing resulted in a no decision After 3.2 innings of work. Niles wore the loss. He gave up 12 runs on 10 hits but only four of those runs were earned.
Grant Reising (0-1) was the other pitcher of decision for the home team.
Cade Burghardt and
Ryan Semin each ended the day with a 0.00 ERA.
Sam Monk,
Casey Thibault,

Carter Gorling all appeared on the mound as well. Gauge Lockhart (6-0) and Sage Ferguson (1-0) were the winning pitchers for Colorado Mesa (21-8, 14-1 RMAC).
The loss extended Mines' skid to seven. Colorado Mesa extended its win streak to eight. The Orediggers batted .328 but only slugged .414. The Mavericks combined for a .420 average and a .696 slugging percentage after four doubles and five home runs. In the field, Mines committed four errors compared to two by CMU. Twenty walks by the Orediggers inflated an 18.00 staff ERA. They did strike out 12. Colorado Mesa's pitching staff struck out three and walked three. Mines also hit eight batters. Only two Orediggers' hitters wore a pitch.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mines scored first in the first game of the day and the second game of the series thanks to Hummel's one-run single. After four innings of action, the game was tied at 4-4 thanks to Moeck's two-run triple and a passed ball. One run in the fifth, four runs in the sixth, and four in the seventh afforded the visitors a 13-4 lead. Pina plated Woolwine with a sacrifice fly in the seventh. A Hummel single also brought Bilter across for the final tally.
The second game of the day started with a 3-2, Oredigger lead after one full inning. Mines used five hits in the opening frame for the early lead. Unfortunately for the home team, Colorado Mesa posted 10 runs in the top of the third. Two more runs in the fourth and seven in the fifth provided some unneeded insurance. But, for good measure, the Mavericks added four more runs in the top of the seventh. And that was how 28 total runs were scored in just over two hours and 30 minutes of baseball.
