Andrews' Home Run Not Enough in Regis Finale

GOLDEN, Colo. - Mason Andrews hit a home run for the Colorado School of Mines Baseball team on Sunday, but it was not enough to keep Regis from winning the series finale, 6-4, and sweeping the weekend.
Andrews' home run was the only hit of the day for the McKinney, Texas, native. Jackson Babcock produced as well, batting .750 with one run on three hits including two doubles. Tyler Hummel Scored twice to cap the highlights on offense. Alex Honeyman started the game on the mound, but took a no-decision. He struck out three and walked two. Seaver Newby (6-5) was the pitcher of decision for the home team. He gave up three runs (one earned) while striking out two and walking zero. Luke Parker and Sam Monk both posted 0.00 ERAs in relief. Lucas Watson (1-0) claimed the win out of the bullpen. Noah McCandless also earned his fifth save of the season.
Neither team hit particularly well in the final game of the series. Mines (11-30, 6-18 RMAC) batted .219. Regis (27-11, 17-3 RMAC) posted a team averaged of .229. Two errors proved detrimental to the Oredigger effort. The Rangers were error-free while posting one double and one home run. Despite suffering the sweep, Mines was not eliminate from the postseason. With Adams State on a bye, the Orediggers sit just three games back of the Grizzlies. Mines has eight games to play with a bye on the final weekend. Adams State has New Mexico Highlands, CSU Pueblo, and Regis remaining on the schedule.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mines appeared relatively in control during the first six innings of action on Sunday. Tyler Pina plated Hummel for a 1-0 lead after one frame. Two Regis runs in the third were followed by a Pina sacrifice fly to make the score 2-2 going into the fourth inning. Andrews' home run provided the Orediggers a 3-2 lead after four frames of play. Even a Rangers' run in the fifth couldn't keep Mines down for long. The bottom of the fifth inning started with back-to-back hits by Hummel and Babcock. A wild pitch allowed Hummel to score as the home team retook the lead, 4-3. Unfortunately for Mines, Regis found two unearned runs in the seventh and added insurance on a solo home run in the ninth. The Orediggers found barrels in their last gasp, but all balls went towards RU.
