CHADRON, Neb. - #21 Colorado School of Mines kept it close to the end, but #15 Chadron State was too tough as the Eagles led start to finish in a 20-13 RMAC dual outcome Friday night.

The Orediggers (6-2, 1-1 RMAC) trailed by only a point, 14-13, with two bouts to go, but the Eagles (3-1, 1-0 RMAC) won at 197 and 285 pounds to seal the win.

Cody Thompson, Brandon Cody, Jakob Smith, and Mason Dield picked up wins for Mines to help keep them in it. CSC went ahead with wins in the first three bouts, first as Jake Goodin wrestled a tough 125-pound match against #6 Quade Smith in a 4-2 defeat, and then with major decision wins by the Eagles at 133 and 141. Mines started to chip away with Thompson's 13-3 major over Aidan Callahan at 149, and Cody's pancake takedown to a nearfall in the third period represented a seven-point swing in his 11-6 win over Brandon Paredes at 157. 

Tayten Gillette held off Deringer Hollenbeck at 165, 9-7, despite a pair of third-period takedowns for the Mines freshman, but the Orediggers got points back on the board as both Smith and Diel worked shutouts at 174 and 184, respectively. Smith had a reversal and a takedown in his 5-0 win over Logan Berger, while Diel's second-period takedown and a third-period escape were all the scoring in his 4-0 decision against Dylan White.

That left the score 14-13 in favor of CSC, but they shut the door on Mines' hopes with Mason Villwok's 8-1 victory over Wyatt Reisz at 197 before Eli Reese won 7-6 against Laith Ibrahim at 285 with Mines needing either a tech fall or fall to win.

Mines is back in action Jan. 17 as they visit Western Colorado.
