Gabe Garvens, Matt Martin and Sam Slusser all recorded an out each for the Orediggers as Slusser (2) got the save. Kyle Leahy (6-2) wore the second loss of his college career.

Kehe set the tone with his leadoff home run in the opening frame on the second pitch to put Mines up 1-0. Pennington followed up in the second inning with a two-run double to spark a four-run frame. Two more runs in the fourth inning gave the Orediggers a 7-1 cushion after Mesa broke up the shutout with one run in the top of the fourth.

The Mavericks staged a rally with two runs in the sixth, one in the eighth and three in the ninth inning, pulling within one. However, Garvens, Martin and Slusser shut the comeback down in the top of the ninth inning as Slusser closed it out with a one-pitch, groundball appearance.
