GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - A pair of silver-medal swims in the 200-fly led Colorado School of Mines on Day 3 of the 2022 RMAC Swimming & Diving Championships.
Charles Burroughs was second in the 200-fly in program-record time, and
Erin Taggart also touched second in the women's race. With 30 events scored, both teams remain in second place as the men have 658.5 points and the women 589.5.
The final day of competition begins Saturday at 9 a.m.
500-FREESTYLE
Meghan Slowey took fourth in an NCAA B time of 5:06.24 to lead Mines in the 500-free, as
Olivia Kisow also snagged a top-eight spot in 5:13.62 for seventh.
Maggie Wells came in 10th in 5:12.78.
For the men,
Scott Reeder (4:37.82) and
Ronan Lauinger (4:38.72) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in a blazing final that saw the top seven times all make the NCAA B cut.
Henry Oberley won the "B" final in 4:43.28 for ninth with
Braden Whitmarsh taking 11th in 4:47.44 and
Josh Lee a spot behind in 4:50.26.
100-BACKSTROKE
Harry Smith led the men's 100-back effort with a sixth-place 50.00 flat time, with
Seth Krause taking eighth in 50.45. Three Orediggers were in the "B" final:
Garrett Waite (10th, 50.64),
Sam LaPrade (14th, 51.44), and
Braden Hunt (16th, 54.43).
Sam Henney was the lone women's representative in the "A" final and placed eighth in 58.93.
Emma Neuroth won the "B" final in 58.87, while
Ava Burger came in 14th in 1:00.41 and
Jess Engel 15th in 1:01.41.
100-BREASTSTROKE
Jorie Selig took fourth to lead Mines in the 100-breast, swimming 1:05.76.
Claire Lautman's 1:06.42 was good for eighth and
Ava Burger won the "B" final in 1:07.08.
The men had
Jack Engler (56.73) and
Gavin Gilmore (57.06) go seventh and eighth.
200-BUTTERFLY
Mines had a pair of silver medals in the 200-fly, starting in the women's race where
Erin Taggart swam 2:07.16 for second.
Isabella Bono was fourth in 2:09.38 and Mines took spots six through eight with
Jules Hays (2:12.57),
Sophia Buhr (2:13.99), and
Lauren Mayo (2:15.47).
For the men it was Burroughs taking the silver in a new program record and NCAA B time of 1:47.64, with
Joe Peak fourth in 1:50.30 and
Robert Clayton fifth in 1:51.03, both NCAA times.
Jaron O'Grady closed sixth in 1:52.03. Burroughs snapped Clayton's record of 1:47.82 set at last year's NCAA meet.
800-FREESTYLE RELAY
The men's 800-free relay earned bronze with
Michael Kietzman,
Braden Whitmarsh,
Joe Peak, and
Nick Delany putting together a 6:51.67 time. Kietzman's leadoff 1:41.24 was their top split.
The women's relay was fourth in 7:44.25 with
Olivia Kisow, Maggie wells,
Lauren Mayo, and
Meghan Slowey; Slowey brought it home in 1:53.82.
