Orediggers Take Opener from Colorado Christian

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Baseball team opened its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series against Colorado Christian on Friday with a 7-3 victory at All-Star Park.

At the plate, Evan Bilter produced a 3-for-4 day which included a double and four RBI. Jackson Woolwine notched a double as part of two hits, scored three runs and stole two bases. Canon Humphreys rounded out the multi-hit performances and had a double as well. Also notable on offense was a home run off the bat of Tyler Pina as well as two stolen bases by Alex Dunagan and one for Tyler Hummel. Alex Honeyman (2-4) started on the mound and earned the win. He allowed one run on five hits with six strikeouts and one walk in 6.0 innings of action. Luke Parker (1) finished the game and earned the save behind 3.0 innings out of the bullpen. Parker surrendered two runs on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Hill (1-7) was the pitcher of decision for the home team.

Overall, Mines scored its seven runs on nine hits and posted a 1.000 fielding percentage. Colorado Christian recorded eight hits but suffered from two errors in the field. The Orediggers also thrived in the slugging department on three doubles and one home run. The Cougars matched the three doubles and added a triple, but had no home runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
A CCU error allowed Mines to score first and take an early, 1-0 lead. Bilter was the Oredigger who put the ball in play and Woolwine crossed the plate. Colorado Christian tied the game, 1-1, in the second inning. The top of the third frame saw Mason Andrews drive in Dunagan and Humphreys plated Bilter. That manageable 3-1 lead turned to 4-1 after Bilter's double in the seventh, and 5-1 with Pina's eighth-inning bomb. A ninth-inning, two-run single by Bilter offset late single runs by the Cougars. Parker worked through a leadoff double and a one-out triple in the ninth to close out the win.
